2016.02.04 Better Put on your Sailing Shoes

4-Players: W, Si, J & G
Game: Keyflower
Location: W
Choice: G

Game One:

PlayerPoints
G61
Si54
W40
J38

Final Tally:

G was declared this week's winner.

Game Notes:
  • Four players seemed fast. Actually, we seemed to be in a time warp for Spring and Summer but then Fall and Winter slowed us down as we got buried in decision making, each turn taking longer and longer as we each considered our options.
  • Played correctly from the start vis-à-vis bidding (no maximum bid).

Music Notes:

Queen: News of the World (1977)

Their sixth album. We are the champions, my friends!
Greyboy: Freestylin (1989)

Acid-jazz DJ from California spinning some vinyl and making it funky. Disappointingly his real name is Andreas Stevens. He later joined the Greyboy Allstars mixing turntablism with live instruments (horns, organ drums) to record some great jazz groove.
The Word: The Word (2001)

Gospel. Well, technically gospel but not what you'd think. One my favourite albums the year it was released. Featuring John Medeski (from MMW), Cody and Luther Dickinson of the Mississippi All-Stars and, best of all, Robert Randolph (the pedal-steel wizard), this album packs a celebratory, heavenly punch of blues-soaked, high-stepping jazzy instrumental covers of gospel tunes like I'll Fly Away.

Lee "Scratch" Perry & the Upsetters: Super Ape (1976)

Dub dub dub. Si: "Best album of the night". J: "Possibly the best album of the night." W: "Not the best album of the night. Are you kidding?"
