• Kamasi Washington: The Epic (2015)

Playing opening night of Jazzfest this year! Fantastic album. Listened to cd2. 

• Kinks: Kinks Size (1965)

Second US release for the English band. tracks include Tired of Waiting, All Day and All of the Night, Come on Now and Louie Louie. I still like this better than The Beatles: Help (1965) but others at the table didn't share that opinion.

• Seldom Scene: 15th Anniversary Concert (1986)

Progressive Bluegrass from the eighties. Lots of great guests including Ricky Skaggs.  

• Jethro Tull: Benefit (1970)

Third album, between Stand Up! and Aqualung which are inarguably great albums. Gets little praise in the general rock community, probably because it was preceded and followed by massive hits. Contains so many great tracks that it's been one of my favourite for years. I am more likely to reach for this album than Aqualung or Thick when feeling the need for a Tull fix.

Cream: Disreali Gears (1967)

The difficult second album. Features the hit Sunshine of Your Love and my favourite: Tales of Brave Ulysses.

 

Chicago Transit Authority: Chicago Transit Authority (1969)

Fantastic debut album. Unexpectedly cool album from a band that became synonymous with soft rock while becoming one of the best selling bands of all time.

 

Pink Floyd: Obscured by Clouds (1972)

Seventh studio album. I love the track "The Gold It's in the..." Such a good album. Next one would be Dark Side of the Moon and we all know how that worked out.

[Wikipedia] The album's cover was, like several other Pink Floyd albums, designed by Hipgnosis. It consists of a photograph of a man sitting in a tree which has been taken out of focus to the point of complete distortion.

The classic. Their best selling album. Required listening for adulthood.

Debut album featuring some nice acoustic-blues. Side project of Jefferson Airplane members Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady. Would sometimes open for the Airplane. A lot of nice covers including Death Don't Have No Mercy and I Know You Rider.


Grateful Dead: The Music Never Stopped (1986; Recorded in September, 1977)

A fan club album, aka bootleg, given out in Sweden to members of the united fan club. From the dead's best year, 1977. Not from the well-regarded month of May, this one's from the labour day weekend in September. Four songs. Two on each side of vinyl. For me, some definitive dead: the secret stash, the holiest of holies. Starts with Jerry singing one of his great songs about gambling: Loser. His guitar just rings like a bell, crystal clear in the mix and there's plenty of bottom bouncing around thanks to Phil. There's a simply amazing Estimated->Eyes, especially the Eyes, followed by a smokin' He's Gone. A jewel in my collection.


Genesis: The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (1974)

One of the few listenable Genesis albums. The last one with Peter Gabriel.
