2015.02.19 Build Pyramids

5 Players: G, W, S, J & K
Game: Amun Re
Location: S
Choice: S (swap with M)

Game One:
Winner G (38 pts), 2nd W (34 pts), 3rd J (33 pts), 4th S (30 pts), 5th K (28 pts)

Final Tally:
 G the clear winner.

Notes:
  • Maximum amount of players for this game made for very tight bidding, usually.
  • There were always regions that went for zero every turn
  • At the end of the first era, every region had at least one pyramid
  • J had the most $ at the game end (and the six vp's!) because the river level was kept at 2 and his camels could harvest. J was successful in lobbying G to reduce our sacrifice to Amun-Re on the last turn and felt somewhat vindicated as a result.
  • S away in Dehli next week
  • J away somewhere less exotic next week

Music Features:
Can: Tago Mago

S's playlist: Music That G Wont Hate (featuring the Kinks, Beatles, Stones, Ani DiFranco, Paul Kelly, John Martin, Fairport Convention, Bob Dylan, and more)

2015.02.12 Jason's Dark Citadels

5 Players: G, W, S, J & M
Location: S
Choice: J

Game One:
Winner S (37 pts), 2nd J (30 pts), 3rd M (26 pts), 4th W (25 pts), 5th G (24 pts)

Final Tally:
S the clear winner.

Notes:
  • S was the first player to get to eight city improvements
  • Game was played with Dark City expansion: nine character cards with dealer's choice for swapping one card per king/shuffle
  • Few cards were swapped: Tax Collector for Thief, Navigator for Architect, Emperor for King, bur not much else.
  • It was suggested that M and W not sit next to each other next game
  • It was suggested that the game might actually have been quicker with six players if that sixth player had been K who would have kept us more on pace.
  • Everyone dug the War album. S kept a copy.
  • S needs to host next week as T is still away in exotic lands

Music Features:

Final Tally:
Unclear who was the overall winner because we failed to define the conditions prior to the game start but, for tonight, we can say that:
  • J had the most victory points (game one + game two); and
  • G won the most number games
Notes:
  • First time playing side by side identical games.
  • Overall acceptance was good and players enjoyed themselves.
  • Game one had curses thanks to Witch and Torturer but Moat, Masquerade and Trading Post helped players deal.
  • Game two featured the combo Ironworks and Great Hall
